dr visit

so, on monday i had a really hard dr visit with a neurologist here in baton rouge..in a nut shell he told me that my neck is as bad as any he has ever seen. that i already have a lot of signs in my hands and feet of spinal cord damage that prob cant be fixed...that the surgery that i have to have will very likely make my situation way worse and make me a lot less functional. but if i dont do it then i will certainly get way worse with time...apparently the broken piece of hardware in my neck is pointing directly into my spinal cord at c2 and its a really really bad deal....it was alot to take in, and im not sure that i have still fully grasped it...the reason i am mainly telling this is bc i know that i need my friends and family to be standing with me in faith that this wont be the case....i dont have alot of faith or hope right now so im asking you to stand with and for me...it means more than you know...
we also need prayer to find the right dr....none of the 6 dr's who have seen my films so far have ever seen a case like mine...not too comforting!! please pray with us to find the right guy that i can feel comfortable and confident with...thanks so much, ruthie

  2. Ruthie,
My heart is breaking as I read your words. So much for one person to bear. I know you will have an army of people praying that God will do the "impossible" and heal your neck and give you relief from your pain. You are right to lean on us and let us pray and hope for you at a time when you are understandably very discouraged. Lots of love and hugs to you, friend.

  3. Ruthie, we are part of that Army that Gillian was talking about- we are indeed praying, and carrying the weight with you over here at the Hutson household. We send our love, and are asking our loving God for great things.

  4. Sweet Ruthie,
David and I are praying for you and for your family. What a tragic and fragile week this has been for you. We pray the Lord fills you with comfort beyond measure and as Katy said, that our loving God will do great things. David and I live in Rochester, MN, where the Mayo Clinic is. If you need/want to come here for treatment on your neck/back we'd be honored if you stayed in our guest room! I'd cook big home-made Edith Schaeffer meals for you! xoxo David & Kelly Richter

  5. Standing in the gap, Ruthie. I know this is not the final word about your back.

Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”
    . . .
But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose. And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”
So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”
    (Mark 9:23-29)

We are trusting God to honor our prayers and fasting for you.
    Love you, sister.

  11. I sent you a note to your facebook about this, too, so I apologize if this is too much info. I ran into the same problem with my mom's films- noone had seen anything that bad, etc. I called all over the US and London and everyone pointed us to Dr. Barth Green in Miami. He is the chief of neurosugery at the University of Miami hospital. He is also head of the Miami Project. You can look it up online. He does incredible things for his patients. Just some info for you b/c I know how hard it is to find doctors who know lot about the spinal cord. Praying for you.....

  13. Ruthie,
I continue to pray for you! I know it is not the same thing but I can relate to you. I will never forget Aug. 20th 2006... the neurologist told me that Bradford had autism and that he would never be normal. She said the only thing that may help a little was to put him in special therapy that was VERY expensive and of course not covered by ins... Anyway, long story short with lots of support and prayers Bradford got the special therapy and is now in a normal pre-K and you can not tell him from another kid. Prayers work!!!! We will continue to think of you!

  14. Hi Ruthie, I don't know you but got forwarded your blog from Caroline Eddleman, who used to be in my Bible study.

I had a medical bout a couple years ago with a different situation, but one where no one had seen it before. I started visiting the top doctor groups in the country because I figured they had probably seen more than those here in Nashville. I ended up settling with the most fantastic neurologist I could have ever dreamed of. She is in Houston TX, though, but I find it well worth the trip...after tirelessly visiting doctors that I did not feel at ease with. Her name is Dr. Milvia Pleitez with the Methodist Neurological group in Houston. She is fantastic, and I even look forward to my doctor visits with her! Please let me know if I can be of further help... elisa.goodrich@gmail.com. Blessings and prayer, Elisa
